Algebra 1B
The second part of a two-year course through Algebra 1
A slower pace through Elementary Algebra by Harold Jacobs,
taught according to Charlotte Mason's principles.
This approach includes the introduction of "captain ideas" from great thinkers or from history to pique the interest of the students and grab their attention. Through carefully graduated lessons, students are engaged and guided to wonder, explore, and consider concepts on their own.
This course constitutes one-half of a high school math credit.

It is the second part of our two-year algebra course. Students who complete our Algebra 1A and Algebra 1B course will complete a full study of Algebra 1. They will have earned a full high school math credit. It is up to each family to decide if this math credit should be applied to their student's high school transcript. It can simply be a part of a student's middle school math study. These students can then go on to complete the requirements for high school math credits by completing Geometry, Algebra 2 & Trigonometry, and Calculus.

Prerequisites: Climbing Higher Math's Algebra 1A course
If you have a student that has completed at least half of the Jacobs textbook and would like to enroll them in our Algebra 1B course please contact us.

Structure:
-
Live, online class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00-11:00 central, via Zoom.
-
Minimal assignments will be given to be completed outside of class time. (There will be periodic, graded exams assigned.)
-
Pre-recorded videos will be posted on Fridays, covering topics students were struggling with that week, or a logic problem pertaining to that week's lessons.
Logistics: Class videos and links will be posted in a Google Classroom to which students will be added. In this environment, students have the opportunity to easily ask the teacher for help, converse with their classmates, as well as use Google tools to turn in assignments and re-watch lessons. The instructor will be available to answer questions, including personalized video answers to problems, as needed. Other days of the week are left open for additional, independent math studies (arithmetic and geometry).
Dates: This is a 34-week course. Fall semester will run Sept 8 through Dec 17, with a week off for Thanksgiving break. Spring semester will run Jan 3 through May 27, with a week off in March for spring break.
